I am a firm believer that it does NOT work. I have yet to come across and ab exercise or ab gadget that will actually burn belly fat. The concept of spot reduction states that if you do a certain exercise for a specific body part, you will be able to burn the fat off that body part. NO WAY! You can absolutely target specific muscles but please put to rest the idea that you are going to willingly target specific areas of fat on your body. It is not going to happen.

So, if spot reduction does not work; what does? You need to focus on a diet and workout routine that will speed up your metabolism and attack and burn all fat, regardless of location.

Here are some quick tips & tricks to help you get started on your journey

  • Do not eat a few large meals each day. Try and reduce meal size and increase frequency. Your metabolism is much more receptive to 6 small meals than it is to 3 large ones. Try and space them out every 2-3 hours.

  • Increase the amount of fiber in your diet by making sure you are consuming at least 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. This may seem very difficult if you are only eating 3 meals per day but refer to my previous suggestion and realize that with 6 meals per day, this is a lot more feasible.

  • Substitute the soda or pop and other high fructose/sugar drink you are consuming each day with good old fashioned water.

  • If it is not part of your life, try and incorporate some cardio. This is one of the best and most effective ways to burn belly fat. It helps burn a lot of calories and does wonders for accelerating your metabolism. And before you close this page in disgust because you hate running, remember that there are a ton of activities aside from running that fall into the cardio category. Biking, hiking, swimming, etc... are just a few. Don't be afraid to get creative. The idea is to get that heart rate elevated.

  • Stop doing hundreds of sit-ups, crunches, or any other ab exercise you think is helping to give you six pack abs. More than anything, you are probably placing unnecessary stress on your back and you are not going to burn any belly fat. Focus on ab exercises that do not place stress on your back and that work your core and require the use of your entire body.

  • Do not spend another hard earned dime on any gizmo or gadget you see on some infomercial that promises to melt the fat away and produce six pack abs with just a few minutes of "work" each day. I have yet to find any advertised gadget that will burn belly fat and no burn holes in your bank account.

Learning how to burn belly fat is like most battles you face in life. If you have the right weapons, you stand a great chance of winning. If you don't, the odds are that you are going to lose. In the case of six pack abs, the weapon of choice is knowledge. Arm yourself and you will conquer that buldging midsection.
