Food, Diets and your Health

Let's take a look at food and the importance it plays in diets and your health. Think about the last diet you tried that did not work for you or that you were not able to stay on. Now, ask yourself this question; do you believe the diet failed you or did you fail the diet? Before you start beating yourself up or trashing the program you were on, I want you to know that more than likely, neither of you were fully at fault. Odds are that both you and the diet share the blame.

There is no such thing as a universally successful diet plan that works for everyone. Even the hottest, trendiest, quickest, easiest plan may not work if it is not in sync with you, your lifestyle and your goals. The better your diet fits "YOU", the better your chances are at achieving the level of health and fitness you are striving for.

I have put together 15 very important questions to ask yourself when deciding which program to follow. Take the time to write your answers down and then use those results to compare it to the diet or weight loss program you are considering and the food that is going to enter your mouth. Your health is worth it! Remember, a successful diet should lead to a lifestyle change. There is no point in having success with a diet and then going back to the activities and foods that got you and your health into trouble in the first place.

Here we go;

1)

What role does food play in your life:

Think about your views on food. Do you view it as fuel for the body or something to help you deal with emotions? Do you only eat when you are hungry or do you find yourself eating whenever it is convenient and available?

2)

How does food fit into your daily activities:

Are you in a work environment where it is difficult to take meal breaks or bring in home-made lunch and snacks? What is your work schedule like? Strict diets are very difficult to maintain if you are constantly on the road or if it is normal for you to work long hours. Regardless of whether it is business or pleasure; do you travel a lot?

3)

What is your eating style:

Think about how you eat. Do you prefer lots of small meals broken out over the day or would you rather eat less frequently and have more food on your plate at each sitting. Are you a constant snacker and what items do you find yourself snacking on the most? Are there certain foods that you will not eat (vegetarians)?

4)

How active are you currently and more importantly, how active are you willing to be:

If you want to have any kind of long term success with weight management and maintain a life of good health, you are going to have to be physically active. Sorry to break the news to you. What you need to think about is how active and how intense while you are being active. Is several laps around the neighborhood more than enough for you or are you looking to burn it out with high intensity interval training?
