The FDA warns to stay away from these fat burning diet pills

Click here to visit Burn the Fat and learn how to lose weight without drugs With more and more people making health and wellness a priority, I can almost guarantee that somewhere near the top of most people’s list is ‘losing weight’. You start thinking about all the different diets out there and try to decide which one will help you burn fat the quickest.

Then you remember seeing some ads online about pills that magically burn the fat right off your body. They use eye catching words and phrases like, “innovative”, “state of the art” and “revolutionary”. They claim to use formulas and recipes derived from faraway lands and cultures. Some even claim to be “natural” and/or “herbal” remedies. All this sounds too good to be true. Unfortunately, it is! And the major problem is that by trying to burn fat by using these pills and diet replacements, you may be putting yourself and your health at great risk. "When consumers are buying these products online, we're telling them that if it sounds too good to be true, it is likely to be too good to be true," said Michael Levy, an FDA lawyer who works on enforcement issues.

The Food and Drug Administration has issued an alert warning consumers about the dangers of over 25 different products that are marketed online as being able to help you lose weight and burn fat.

These diet substitutes should be considered dangerous because almost all of them use ingredients that have been undeclared and unlisted and in some cases, they use dangerous amounts of pharmaceutical grade ingredients.

If staying at a hospital is not a part of your diet regiment and potentially increasing your risk of having a heart attack, seizure or stroke is not part of your fat burning equation, then stay away from these self proclaimed ‘fat burners’. Anyone of these products can easily have you on a stretcher and on the way to the emergency room. Many of them do not list all the potentially dangerous and harmful ingredients they contain.

“These tainted weight loss products pose a great risk to public health because they contain undeclared ingredients and, in some cases, contain prescription drugs in amounts that greatly exceed their maximum recommended dosages,” said Janet Woodcock, M.D., director, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, FDA.

Here is a list of some of these ingredients and why you want to avoid them:

  • Sibutramine- a controlled substance which is chemically related to amphetamines and a very strong appetite suppressant. It can cause a significant increase in your blood pressure and it can cause heart attacks, seizures and strokes.
  • Rimonabant- Tested but not approved by the FDA in the USA. This drug has been associated with an increased risk of suicide and depression.
  • Phenytoin- This is a drug used to prevent seizures.
  • Phenolphthalein- A chemical solution which in the past has been used as a laxative. An increased risk of cancer is associated with this drug.

According to Woodcock, “Consumers have no way of knowing that these products contain powerful drugs that could cause serious health consequences. Therefore FDA is taking this action to protect the health of the American public.”

The FDA is currently working to recall and stop the sale of these dangerous products. If you are using any of them, you should stop immediately and if you are feeling any adverse effects, you should consult your physician immediately.

If you are looking to burn fat and lose weight, please remember that there is no magic pill that will do all the work for you.
